Media appearances By Gracie Landes

I welcome inquiries from journalists. I'm happy to answer your questions, especially to debunk myths about love, sex, relationships and family These most basic aspects of life are fascinating, especially when you look at them through sociological, political and historical lenses. Having worked closely with journalists before becoming a therapist, I appreciate how helpful it is to get a quick, well reasoned response to a question. If I don’t agree with a premise you’re testing, I promise to give you solid, interesting reasons why. Sometimes my answers lead to future stores. … Below are some links to things I’ve said to journalists, such as:

WHY YOU Shouldn’t fake an orgasm

“Faking it leads to a disconnect with your bodily sensations and perceptions, and that disconnect can make orgasm more difficult to achieve since you need to focus and be present in order to climax. Many people can sense when their partner is faking it, and this can lead to a lack of trust in your relationship. Remember that your partner wants to please you, not worry about whether or not you’re pretending.”

on powerful men who MASTURBATE in public

During solo masturbation, a man can think what he wants, without having to relate to another person, explain, adjust or negotiate. Making it public changes the dynamic -the man who masturbates in public is sending a message that he doesn’t have to follow the rules. Making someone watch you masturbate is lower-risk than other forms of sexual assault — and less likely to lead to consequences. Offenders use the element of surprise to catch their victims off guard. The act is so incongruent with normal public behavior that most victims don’t know how to respond. While a few will say something, most just try to escape.”
